The Czech Technology Agency's SIGMA-DC1 programme, 'Support for Proof of Concept Activities in Research Organisations', focuses on verifying the practical application of the results of applied research and experimental development and preparing them for subsequent commercial or societal use. The programme therefore primarily focuses on the proof of concept phase, i.e. concept verification. The support is not intended for basic research.
Charles University has received a total allocation of CZK 18,749,896 for the period 2024–2026 (including administrative costs), to be distributed among sub-projects implemented by individual university departments.
TAČR's level of support is CZK 14,999,916, with a 20% co-participation requirement.
The CU's aim is to support high-quality projects that produce results suitable for potential commercial or societal use.
Overall coordination and administration of the project is provided by the Charles University Centre for Knowledge and Technology Transfer. The faculties in which the project's participating departments are located are directly responsible for implementing specific sub-projects.
The Rector of Charles University decides on the allocation of support to sub-projects on the basis of an evaluation and recommendation by the Charles University Commercialisation Council.
Support is intended for CU employees working on projects aimed at verifying the practical application of research results on the market or for societal needs.
Support is recommended at a range of CZK 300,000–900,000 per sub-project (including co-financing). In exceptional and justified cases, support may be increased to CZK 1.1 million (including co-financing).
The co-participation is 20%, paid for by sub-projects.
The projects have a set implementation period of 8 months, from January to August 2026.
