The GAMA 2 program of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic is focused on supporting the verification of the applied research outcomes and experimental developments in terms of their practical application and on the preparation of their subsequent commercial use or use for the needs of society. Therefore, it focuses mainly on the proof-of-concept phase. The funding is not intended for fundamental research.
Charles University received funds in the amount of CZK 16,112,000 for the years 2020–2022 (including administration), which will be subsequently distributed among selected projects, which are realized at the given departments of Charles University. In April 2020, the fund was increased with CZK 8,026,850 for 4 projects addressing COVID-19 issues.
The main goal of Charles University here is to support high quality projects with results suitable for potential commercial use. It is not about the quantity of results and the size of the funding for a selected project is not limited.
The overall coordination and administration of the project "Support of the commercialization process for research and development outcomes at Charles University II" is provided by the Center for Knowledge and Technology Transfer of Charles University. The responsibility for the implementation of selected projects is carried by the faculties, where the projects supported by the program are implemented..
The Rector of Charles University decides on the allocation of support to selected projects based on the evaluation and recommendations of the Board for the Commercialization of Charles University.
The support is intended for employees and students of Charles University on the proof of concept of the research outcomes from the point of their practical application on the market and on the preparation for the subsequent commercialization.
The project allocation is recommended in the range of 200K-800K CZK for a project. However, the maximum is not defined.
